Vermillion School Honors Veterans

Students and teachers at St. John the Baptist School in Vermillion showed their respect and gratitude in honor of those who so faithfully served our country in military service with an all-school assembly as part of Veteran's Day observances. The program included local veterans, parents, grandparents and special guests, including Dean Markuson from the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon-Hastings organization and several members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization, who presented awards to the school's top writers of the VFW-sponsored "What Freedom Means to Me" essay contest.  Winners included Allison Wentzler, Stephen Reinardy, Kora Seleski and Lexi Nauer.  The preschool through 6th grade school also presented a framed patriot piece of artwork signed by all students and faculty to the VFM members in attendance. The program included a demonstration of the meaning behind the formal folding of the American flag, many patriotic songs and individual recognition of each veteran in attendance.
