Vermillion Science Fair season kicks off with Family Science Night

Fluid dynamics. Specific gravity. Static electricity. Surface tension. Chemical composition. Cryogenics.

These are just some of the concepts students, parents, grandparents and guests studied at the annual Family Science Night at St John the Baptist School in Vermillion on Monday night, January 25. Families visited each classroom to enjoy hands-on, self-paced science experiments guided by faculty members. The event is the school's kick off for Science Fair season, culminating in an actual Science Fair on Friday, March 11th.  Following the classroom experiments, participants gathered for a large group event about cryogenics, lead by 3M wizard Mike Strommen, who introduced the group of preschool through 6th graders to the phases of matter and the behavior of materials at very low temperatures.
