Students at St John the Baptist celebrate month of the Holy Rosary

Fourth graders representing Sr. Navya's class (pictured here) celebrate October, the month of the Holy Rosary, by leading the weekly, all-school devotion in the historic St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion. Classes take turns leading the prayers that encourage students to reflect upon the life of Christ and the story of salvation history.

According to Dominican Bl. Alan de la Roche in the fifteenth century, the Blessed Mother Mary appeared to St. Dominic in 1206 after he had been praying. Mary praised him for his valiant efforts to serve the Church, then presented him with the Rosary as a mighty weapon, and she explained its uses and efficacy, and told him to preach it to others.

Pope Francis states, "The Rosary is a prayer that always accompanies me; it is also the prayer of the ordinary people and the saints . . . it is a prayer from my heart."
